2007 Spring Series Events
Qualifications (Sat., March 24, 8:00 am):
Qualifications day is often regarded as the most stressful day on the track, as only the fastest 33 teams will be allowed to enter the Little 500. Utilizing two or more riders, teams must complete four laps around the track, exchanging each lap. Smooth bike exchanges and quick single lap speed are the marks of a successful qualification. (not scored in overall series standings)
Individual Time Trial (Wed., March 28, 4:00 pm):
The Individual Time Trials (or ITT) consists of four riders on the track at the same time beginning from a dead start, one in each corner, racing four laps against the clock. The fastest time wins.
Miss-N-Out (Sat., March 31, 10:00 am):
Another event in the Little 500 Series, Miss-N-Out is an exercise in pack riding and a test in tactics. Riders are arranged in heats of six to eight and seeded according to their Individual Time Trial results. Each lap the last rider across the start/finish line is eliminated from the competition until two or three advance. Riders advance from preliminaries to quarterfinals to semifinals to the final. Sometimes described as "musical chairs on a bike," Miss-N-Out is the most popular spectator series event.
Team Pursuit (Thurs., April 5, 3:00 pm):
As the final event in the series, team pursuit tests team strength and unity. Two teams stand on the infield while their bike lay on the track. As the starting gun sounds the riders run to their bikes and begin their chase. The teams begin on opposite sides of the track and ride against each other for 15 laps (men) or 12 laps (women). The fastest two times of the preliminary heats square off against each other in the final, which determines the event champions.
